Happy New Years!
It's the time of the year when we look back and count our blessings, look forward to a new year and dream about all of our possibilities and stop today and make some resolutions about what we need to change. And above all it's a time to Celebrate life. Or is it? Why do we celebrate?
Is it possible that we've lost our ability to Celebrate life?
Have we gotten so accustomed to "celebrating everything and at the same time nothing" by eating, drinking, smoking, spending, that none of it means anything anymore?
Has "loving to get high" replaced "loving to be alive"?
Have we given our children a reason to be grateful, and out of that gratitude, find a reason to celebrate?
"Loving to get high" has both a "cause and effect" impact on life.
If we do not not find a deep and meaningful reason to Celebrate life, we will "celebrate by getting high". (cause)
If we "celebrate by getting high", it will impact every aspect of life. (effect)
As we move from 2011 to 2012, we can stop and consider how parenting a teen, who "gets high" or "loves to get high", has impacted the way we celebrate and experience life. Maybe this is the year for a resolution to be more conscious of what's going on, what our emotions are telling us, what behaviors are being ignored, what fears do we have about the New Year, and who are we going to reach out to for support.
Why do we celebrate? Maybe it has to do with knowing that there is Hope, that things can change. Good luck in finding this renewed courage for a new year.
