A 4-H Project made with Hemp

It’s “Show and Tell” for drug education.

When I was a 12 year old I put Hemp in a 4-H project, entitled “Weeds”. Hemp was one of five weeds, along with;  knotweed, motherwort, nightshade and rough clinquefoil.

I bring my “Weed” project along when I speak to students and I ask them how much trouble do they think that I got into for putting hemp in a 4-H project? they say, “A lot”. The truth is I didn’t get into any trouble it was simply a weed. Times have changed. Now students would get suspended from school, sent for a drug evaluation, or at least gotten a lecture from an Assistant Principal.

Ditch Weed was what we called hemp when I was a kid growing up on the farm. When my dad was a kid they grew hemp to make rope. In the late 60′s when kids finally started to smoke pot, it wasn’t a lot stronger then ditch weed. With only a T.H.C. level of 1%, whereas the potency of pot  today is closer to 10% T.H.C.

“Loving to Get High” factors into the equation, it explains the science behind a more potent strain of pot. The motivation? Smoking pot that is better at doing what it’s supposed to do “Getting me high!”

Parents, when you were a kid experimenting with pot, it wasn’t the same thing. It could still get you to love the high, but the pot kids are smoking today make this “Oh so much easier”.

So it’s time to wake up and smell (not the roses or the coffee) the sweet, pungent smell of pot, in you kid’s hair, on their clothes, in their car. Pay attention some believe that pot is more popular than alcohol, kids say it’s easier to get in school than alcohol. In my professional opinion it is the quintessential drug for “loving to get high”. So parents, we’ve got some work to do. Good luck.
